RBJ: Tell us a little about yourself.
PA: Hi, my name is Parker Asam. I am 14 years old and am in eighth grade. I live in Murrieta, California with my wonderful parents. I started riding when I was five years old. I was so fascinated by these magnificent creatures and they were all that I talked about. I am the first equestrian in my family and am so grateful for all my parents have done to make my riding dreams come true. My trainers Belinda and Bliss Bates have taught me how to be the rider and horsewoman that I am today. I wouldn't be anywhere near where I am without their help.
RBJ: What equestrian sports do you compete in?
PA: I compete in two gymkhana events, barrel racing and pole bending. I love to go fast, so barrel racing is my favorite. I started off doing gymkhana on my first horse, Ranger, and I learned a lot from him but after a few years I was ready for a "step-up." One horse turned into two, two horses turned into three, and now nine years later I have six amazing horses that have taught me so much.
RBJ: Tell us about your horses.
PA: I currently have six horses Malibu, The Babe, Bob, Okie, Mel, and Trumpy Bear. Each one has a special place in my heart. Bob has played a huge role in my success and has helped make so many of my dreams come true. When Bob got hurt last year, Malibu came into my life. In our short time together, we have already accomplished so much together. They have helped me to earn many year end awards and belt buckles.
RBJ: What has been your biggest challenge as an equestrian?
PA: I am extremely hard on myself, which can be very challenging as an equestrian. When I have a bad run I will put also of pressure on myself and it will feel like the world is ending. But, as my favorite quote says "It is just a chapter, not your whole life story".
RBJ: Thank you so much for being part of the Rusty Brown family, do you have any last thoughts?
PA: I am so thankful that I get to be part of the Rusty Brown Jewelry team!! I love every piece of jewelry that you guys create. Rusty Brown Jewelry looks amazing, and perfectly represents what I love so much!!
